Who we are

JL Ricks Strategies exists to provide non-legal, strategic, and educational support that helps individuals navigate complex civil rights, regulatory, and institutional processes with procedural clarity, disciplined preparation, and informed decision-making—especially where traditional enforcement and representation fall short.

Many people encounter serious obstacles not because their concerns lack merit, but because modern institutions are difficult to navigate without specialized procedural knowledge. Intake systems are opaque, timelines are unforgiving, documentation standards are unclear, and enforcement pathways often assume access to counsel that many individuals do not have. JL Ricks Strategies was created to address this gap.

Our work focuses on process literacy rather than legal advocacy. We help clients organize records, clarify timelines, understand institutional pathways, anticipate procedural risks, and prepare to engage agencies or organizations on their own behalf. We do not provide legal advice or representation, and we do not act for clients; instead, we support informed, autonomous decision-making grounded in how systems actually function.

JL Ricks Strategies serves individuals operating pro se, as well as those preparing for attorney consultations, administrative action, or escalation. The consultancy is intentionally structured to be disciplined, ethical, and transparent—designed for durability, credibility, and accountability in high-stakes environments.

Founder & Principal Consultant

John L. Ricks is the founder of JL Ricks Strategies and brings extensive experience navigating complex institutional, regulatory, and civil rights processes from a systems and strategy perspective. He has worked across corporate, public-sector-adjacent, and academic environments, where his work has focused on organizational behavior, governance, decision-making under constraint, and procedural accountability.

John holds an MBA and a Master’s degree in Communication, with graduate-level training centered on how large institutions behave, how narratives are tested under scrutiny, and how process failures emerge when systems are stressed. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran and has firsthand experience engaging civil rights enforcement mechanisms, administrative agencies, and oversight processes.

Through JL Ricks Strategies, John applies this background to support individuals who must navigate powerful institutions without formal representation—helping them prepare, organize, and engage with clarity and discipline while remaining firmly outside the practice of law.
